What are Serums?
Serums go on before your moisturizer. They deliver the active ingredients that your skin needs (like vitamins and anti-oxidants) because they are water based and are quickly absorved by the skin. Serums can be a key ingredient in preparing your skin for make-up.
Unfortunately, due to their ability to penetrate quickly serums are not for everyone. Some people with sensititve skin, rosacea, or other problems may feel like a serum further irritates their skin. Others with the same problems, rely on a serum to help the irritation. Every skin type is different, and knowing whether or not to use a serum can depend a lot on trial and error.
There are a variety of serums available for different skin types. TOB finds serums most useful when skin is dehydrated or slightly irritated. To this day, Caudelie SOS serum has been the best product I have used, not only on my skin, but on clients. It provides that extra hydration that the skin needs and helps the make-up go on even smoother. It is exactly what it says, "thirst quenching." As soon as you apply this your skin feels smooth and the tightness that can come from cleansing disappears instantly. This is one of my Make-Up Bag Secrets.
For skin that appears dull and tired TOB uses. It seems to instantly make skin brighter and even out the skin tone. Though it does not provide compare to the SOS serum for hydration, it does hydrate the skin.
The above are Morning Serums that you can apply before your Make-Up to help get a flawless finish.
Night Serums are also very popular. You can use these serums in addition to these, however , do not use them in the morning before your makeup (that is not what they are meant for).
Estee Lauders advanced night repair, is a very concentrated formula that has gotten great reviews. Personally, I have used it and find it to be to intense for my skin. Rather than helping it, it irritates my skin. Pharmacists and Beauty Technicians recommend these type of serums more for maturing skin or mature skin (i.e. Begin in your mid to late 30s early 40s when there is less elastin and collagen for your skin).
